마르세이유 노트르담 드 라 가르드 대성당( Notre Dame de La Garde, Marseille)

이 성당은 마르세이유 도시의 상징물로 161 m의 언덕에 위치하고 있다. 1214년 첫 성당을 건축했다. 1524년에 프랑수와 1세(François 1er) 가 요새 건축을 명령했다. 현재 바실리크 성당은 로마 비잔틴 양식으로 건축가 에스페랑디유 (Espérandieu)의 설계에 의해 건축된 것으로 나폴레옹 3세 치하의 대형 공사의 한 부분이었으며 1864년에 완성되었다. 46m의 종루는 도금된 성모 마리아의 동상으로 유명하며 11.2m에 이르는 도금된 성모상(9,796 kg)을 마지막으로 이 건축물이 완성되었다. 성당은 화려하게 채색된 대리석과 모자이크 벽면으로 화사함을 더해준다. 이 성당은 마르세이유를 해적들로부터 보호해준다는 수호성당이다. 성당안에는 안전한 항해를 기원하기 위해 배 모형을 메달고 성모마리아에게 기도를 한다. 성당의 벽에는 엑스포토라고 성모마리아가 도와준 것을 기념하여 선주들이 그림을 기증하였는데 그림의 상단 위에는 성모마리아의 그림이 있다.
