Nineveh의 신전에 모셔진 아시리아의 신이다. 앗수르 왕  산헤립이 니느웨의 니스록 묘(廟)에서 경배하다가 암살되었다(왕하 19:37,사 37:38). 이 신의 이름이 설형문자(楔形文字) 비문에서 발견되지 않으므로 구구한 추측이 있었다. 가장 타당하다고 생각되는 것은 월신(月神)의 아들로서 화신(火神)인 누스쿠(Nusku)가 아닌가 한다. 그는 보는 신인데, 앗수르의 비문에는 그와 같은 신으로서 묘사되어 있다. 바벨론인들의 신 마르둑, 블레셋의 신 다곤과 동일한 신인 것으로 추정된다.

 

산헤립이 죽다(열왕기하 19:35-37)

35 이 밤에 여호와의 사자가 나와서 앗수르 진영에서 군사 십팔만 오천 명을 친지라 아침에 일찍이 일어나 보니 다 송장이 되었더라
36 앗수르 왕 산헤립이 떠나 돌아가서 니느웨에 거주하더니
37 그가 그의 신 니스록의 신전에서 경배할 때에 아드람멜렉과 사레셀이 그를 칼로 쳐죽이고 아라랏 땅으로 그들이 도망하매 그 아들 에살핫돈이 대신하여 왕이 되니라

 

Nisroch

 

(Hebrew: נִסְרֹךְ; Greek: Νεσεραχ; Latin: Nesroch) (Aramaic: ܢܝܼܫܪܵܟ݂‎) is the Assyrian god of agriculture, in whose temple Sennacherib was worshipping when he was assassinated (2 Kings 19:37; Isa. 37:38). Josephus calls him Dagon. According to the etymology, the name would signify eagle. Among the ancient Arabs, also, the eagle occurs as an idol. His identification as a god in Mesopotamia is unclear. Some suggest he could be the same as Nusku.

 

[edit] Hebrew legendIn the Midrash, "Nisroch" is actually said to be derived from the Hebrew word "neser." Neser was the name given to a plank of wood discovered by Sennacherib on his return to Assyria from his campaign in Judah. The sages write that this plank was originally part of Noah's Ark, and that Sennacherib worshiped it as an idol. It would therefore be concluded that it was this idol that Sennacherib was worshiping when he was murdered by his two sons.

앗수르인들이 섬기던 성신(星神)이다.(암5:26) 70인역에서는 이를 ‘레판(Rephan)’으로 번역하였는데 행7:43에 나오는 ‘신 레판의 별’이 바로 이것이다.  " 너희가 너희 왕 식굿과 기윤과 너희 우상들과 너희가 너희를 위하여 만든 신들의 별 형상을 지고 가리라(암5:26)"

식굿과 동일한 신이다.(암5:26) 토성의 신 ‘니니브(Ninib)’와 동일한 신인 것을 추측된다.

마르둑의 아내인 ‘사르파니두’(Sarpanitu)로 여겨지는 신이다. 이 신 역시 앗수르 왕에 의해 사마리아로 이주해 온 바벨론인들에 의해 섬겨졌다.(왕하17:30)

 

"앗수르 왕이 명령하여 이르되 너희는 그 곳에서 사로잡아 온 제사장 한 사람을 그 곳으로 데려가되 그가 그 곳에 가서 거주하며 그 땅 신의 법을 무리에게 가르치게 하라 하니 28 이에 사마리아에서 사로잡혀 간 제사장 중 한 사람이 와서 벧엘에 살며 백성에게 어떻게 여호와 경외할지를 가르쳤더라 29 그러나 각 민족이 각기 자기의 신상들을 만들어 사마리아 사람이 지은 여러 산당들에 두되 각 민족이 자기들이 거주한 성읍에서 그렇게 하여 30 바벨론 사람들은 숙곳브놋을 만들었고 굿 사람들은 네르갈을 만들었고 하맛 사람들은 아시마를 만들었고 31 아와 사람들은 닙하스와 다르닥을 만들었고 스발와임 사람들은 그 자녀를 불살라 그들의 신 아드람멜렉과 아남멜렉에게 드렸으며 32 그들이 또 여호와를 경외하여 자기 중에서 사람을 산당의 제사장으로 택하여 그 산당들에서 자기를 위하여 제사를 드리게 하니라 33 이와 같이 그들이 여호와도 경외하고 또한 어디서부터 옮겨왔든지 그 민족의 풍속대로 자기의 신들도 섬겼더라 (왕하17:27-33)"
