테티스(Thetis)

그리스신화에 나오는 티탄족의 여신으로 바다의 여신이다. 하늘의 신 우라노스와 땅의 여신 가이아 사이에서 태어난 티탄 12신(神) 가운데 하나이다. 그녀는 눈부시게 아름다웠다고 한다. 어느 날 그녀가 바다에서 걸어 나오자 남신들은 그녀의 화려한 아름다움을 보고 그녀를 저마다 자신의 여자로 삼으려고 다투기 시작했다. 그러나 제우스는 그녀가 자신 등 남신 올림포스 신족들과 결혼하면 올림포스 신족들을 무너뜨릴 수 있는 아들을 낳을 거라는 예언을 듣고 깜짝 놀란다. 결국 제우스는 아까운 마음을 참고 테티스를 인간  펠레우스왕에게 신부로 준다. 테티스는 펠레우스와 결혼하게 되는데, 이 결혼식장에서 에리스가 황금사과를 던져 트로이 전쟁의 불씨가 되기도 한다. 테티스는 아킬레우스를 낳았다.
