At the access to the great temple of Angkor Wat there are the statue of the mythical Naga, the seven-headed serpent protector of Buddha, and the statue of the guardian lion.

나가는 인도에서 힌두교 탄생 이전부터 절대 죽지 않음을 의미하는 뱀신으로 숭배되어왔다. 윤회를 설법하는 부처의 수호신으로 여기며, 앙코르 유적에서는 좌선하고 있는 석가를 나가가 지키고 있는 형상의 좌불상이 많이 발견된다고 한다. 천계와 하계를 잇는 무지개 다리 역할을 하기 때문에 참배 도로의 난간 등에 많이 이용되었단다. 자세히 보면 징그럽기도 한데 멀리서 보면 무슨 형상인지 잘 알 수가 없다.
