로도섬에서 85㎞ 떨어진 곳에 있다. 바울 당시에는 꽤 번창한 항구로 해상무역이 활발했으며 비옥한 크산투스(Xanthos) 강 유역에 농업도 잘되어 루기아 지방에서 가장 번성했다. 그러나 지금은 수심이 얕아서 선박 출입이 매우 힘들다. 지금은 컬레미슈라고 부른다. 바울은 제3차 전도여행을 마치고 돌아오는 길에 이곳에서 배를 타고 베니게로 건너갔다(행 21:1∼2). 당시 바다라 항구는 오늘날 유적지 입구 직전에 위치해 있었으나 지금은 상당 부분이 늪지대로 변했다. 이곳에는 아폴로의 유명한 신탁소가 있었으며 당시의 극장 목욕탕 성벽 등의 유적이 오늘날까지 남아 있어 옛날의 번영을 짐작할 수 있다.

<Myra, Lycia in Turkey>

무라는 소아시아 남루기아도에 있는 지중해의 항구도시이다. 루기아 도시연맹의 6대 도시 중 하나로 본성은 바다로부터 4㎞ 가량 떨어진 안드라쿠스 강변에 위치했었다. 지명의 뜻은 몰약,불사르다이다. 무라에 들어서자마자 바위를 깎아 만든 무덤들이 이곳의 특징을 한눈에 보여주었다. 고대 중동지역에서는 바위로 무덤을 만들었다. 왜냐하면 건조한 지역이므로 매장을 하지 않아도 악취가 나지 않기 때문이다. 그래서 무라에는 마치 조각품처럼 바위를 깎아 만든 무덤이 산 전체를 뒤덮고 있다. 그리고 무덤 옆에는 고대 로마 때의 야외극장이 바다를 향해 건설되어 있었다. 그러나 로마시대에 루기아주(州)의 수도였던 무라가 무엇보다 큰 의미가 있는 것은 바울이 루기아도에 속한 무라성을 거쳐 로마로 갔다는 사실이다(행 27:5).

바울이 로마로 압송되다 (행 27:1-8)

1 우리가 배를 타고 이달리야에 가기로 작정되매 바울과 다른 죄수 몇 사람을 아구스도대의 백부장 율리오란 사람에게 맡기니 2 아시아 해변 각처로 가려 하는 아드라뭇데노 배에 우리가 올라 항해할새 마게도냐의 데살로니가 사람 아리스다고도 함께 하니라 3 이튿날 시돈에 대니 율리오가 바울을 친절히 대하여 친구들에게 가서 대접 받기를 허락하더니 4 또 거기서 우리가 떠나가다가 맞바람을 피하여 구브로 해안을 의지하고 항해하여 5 길리기아와 밤빌리아 바다를 건너 루기아의 무라 시에 이르러 6 거기서 백부장이 이달리야로 가려 하는 알렉산드리아 배를 만나 우리를 오르게 하니 7 배가 더디 가 여러 날 만에 간신히 니도 맞은편에 이르러 풍세가 더 허락하지 아니하므로 살모네 앞을 지나 그레데 해안을 바람막이로 항해하여 8 간신히 그 연안을 지나 미항이라는 곳에 이르니 라새아 시에서 가깝더라.
