우레우스(Uraeus Cobra)

대부분 이집트 왕관의 머리 앞부분에는 독수리와 함께 코브라의 모습이 형상화되어 있는데 이 코브라를 우레우스('일어서는 여자'라는 뜻의 그리스어)라고 부른다. 독수리 네크베트(Nekhbet)와 크브라 우레우스는 상 하 이집트를 상징하는 대표적인 두 동물로서 상 이집트의 흰 왕관과 하 이집트의 붉은 왕관이 결합되어 나타난 통일 이집트의 왕관을 표시하는 것이다. 우레우스는 왕의 이마 중앙에 지키고 있다가 적이 나타나면 독침을 쏘아 왕을 보호하는 역할을 한다고 믿어졌다. 이집트의 정통적인 코브라 여신은 왕조시대 이전부터 전해오는 '와제타(Wadjet)'에 그 기원을 두고 있으며 나일 삼가주 지역에 있는 부토(Buto)의 수호신이었다.
