에오스 (Eos, Aurora)

로마 신화의 아우로라에 해당한다. 티탄 신족(神族)의 태양신 히페리온(Hyeprion)과 테이아(Theia)의 딸로, 태양신 헬리오스와는 오누이, 달의 여신 셀레네와는 자매간인데, 같은 티탄족인 아스트라이오스의 아내가 되어 바람과 별의 어머니가 되었다. 매일 아침 태양이 떠오르면 ‘장밋빛 손가락’으로 밤의 장막을 거두는 여신으로 알려졌다. 군신(軍神) 아레스를 사랑하다가 아프로디테의 분노를 샀는데, 그 벌로 누구든 젊은이를 사랑하게 되면 인간세상에서 그를 앗아가 버렸다. 그중에서도 티토노스와의 이야기가 유명하다. 둘 사이에서 태어난 자식 중에 멤논이 있는데, 멤논은 헥토르가 죽은 뒤 트로이를 도우러 갔다가 아킬레우스와 싸워 죽었다. 에오스는 그를 동쪽으로 옮겨와 제우스에게 간청하여 소생시킨 다음 불사(不死)의 존재가 되게 하였다.
